Introduction

Beijing Academy Artificial Intelligence  – On AI in education Representatives of Member States, international organizations, academic institutions, civil society. And the private sector adopted the Beijing Consensus on Artificial Intelligence and Education at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education held in Beijing on May 16-18, 2019.However, it is the first-ever document to provide guidance and recommendations on the best ways for States to respond to the opportunities and challenges associated with AI to accelerate progress toward SDG 4.

The Consensus reaffirms the humanistic approach to deploying AI technologies in education to enhance human intelligence, protect human rights and promote sustainable development through effective human-machine collaboration in living, learning and work.

The Consensus Also Sets Out Recommendations Corresponding To Four Cross-Cutting Issues

  • Promote equitable and inclusive use of AI in education;
  • AI is respectful of gender equity and conducive to gender equality;
  • Ensure ethical, transparent and verifiable use of education data and algorithms;
  • Monitoring, evaluation and research.

However, the Consensus concludes by proposing concrete actions that international communities and commiting individuals can take to support AI in education. Artificial Intelligence And The Futures Of Learning

The project on artificial intelligence (AI) and the future of learning are based on the Recommendation on the ethics of artificial intelligence, which is scheduled for adoption at the 41st session of the General Conference of the UNESCO, and will also follow up on the recommendations of UNESCO’s next global report entitled Reimagining our futures together: A new social contract for education which will be launch in November 2021. Therefore, the project will be executs within the outline of the Consensus of Beijing on AI. And education and in the context of the UNESCO Strategy on Technological Innovation in Education (2021-2025). In addition, it includes three independent and complementary components:

  • a report offering recommendations on the future of learning with AI
  • a guide to the ethical principles of using AI in education
  • an AI skills guidance framework for students.

Teaching Artificial Intelligence At School

The connection between AI and education is in three areas: learning with AI (e.g. using AI tools in classrooms), learning about AI (its technologies and its techniques) and preparing for AI (e.g. to enable all citizens better to understand the potential impact of AI on human life). The “Teaching artificial intelligence at school” project is currently focusing on the last two components. Its independence is to contribute to the integration of the human and technical aspects of AI into training programs for students. The first step is to guide the capacity development of curriculum developers and master trainers from selects national institutions to empower young people.

The Project Will Unfold Along The Following Three Lines Of Action

  • development of an AI competency framework for schools
  • creating and managing an online directory to house selects AI education resources, national AI curricula, and other essential digital skills training;
  • organization of workshops to promote the integration of AI training into national or institutional school curricula in a number of countries.

Conclusion

The directory aims to help school curriculum developers upgrade their AI knowledge, encourage them to integrate AI skills-building modules/courses into the curricula of schools. And other educational institutions, facilitate the preparation of (master) trainers, and provide AI-in-education-directs resources that are freely available to everyone.
